Susan Patrick and Ates Brown…Top editors at Anthill Studios

Hello guys.

Did you know that The Wedding Party 2, My Wife and I, The Women…three of the most successful films in 2017 were all edited by one woman: The beautiful and Genius Victoria Akujobi, Anthills Post Production Supervisor. Yes…we are proud like that!

About this time last year, i decided to start something to celebrate my mum’s legacy; empower women with training in a field that has blessed me a lot and enriched the women around me: film editing. We got 30 young and old women and taught them film editing for 3 days. it’s one of my most successful experiments. As we speak, the women have gone on to do great things within a year beyond my expectations. some have made their first feature films, some shorts, some started youtube channels and the two you see in this photo were part of the training and are now top editors at Anthill studios. Some of the students include filmmakers Uduak Isong, Blessing Egbe and popular youtube blogger Adenike Adebayo. My mama will be proud.

This year, we will be doing the same in February.

Who is a Video Editor?

The editor plays an important role in determining a film’s potential, and so, you must be willing to creatively challenge your imagination to create or recreate a compelling story.

Video editing is not for everyone. Only smart people who have great attention to detail, with the gift of patience, not in a hurry to shut down your computer because bae is waiting, quick at spotting contradictions, emotionally intelligent, with a dash of hardcore – it is also important that you are a good story teller because really, that’s your job. Also, very importantly, you must have a firm, good working and communicative relationship with the other crew members, so that if you ever hear the director whisper “we will fix it in post”, you might need to scream “NO, FIX IT NOW!”

So, at this point we hope you have identified the qualities you already have and the qualities you need if you really want to learn and be a top notch editor.

The training is free and will run for 3 days in February. Each day from 9am to 5pm.

  1. A Mac or Windows laptop with these minimum technical specs
  • Intel core i5 processor and above (preferably quad core)
  • 8GB of RAM or more
  • At least 50GB of free Hard disk space
  1. A good knowledge of computer file and folder systems
  2. An email with a screenshot of your computer specs and a letter of interest stating the following:
  • Your name
  • Your educational background
  • Your work experience
  • A brief write up on why you want to learn film/video editing

Send this letter to on or before January 20th

PLS. NOTE: I really want 30 people who are hoping to make a career out of this so if you are not serious, do not hinder the chances of others. Don’t be a witch! ALSO, I WON’T BE TAKING ACTORS!!!!

If shortlisted, you will be invited for a one-on one screening a week to the training so we can see your laptop and help you install the necessary software to get started.

Good luck girls. I want to see you all at the top. I’m doing this project in memory of my late mum… Elizabeth Eyeola Akinmolayan who always encouraged strength and independence in women.
